Traveling Italy

Helpful Hints:

- Know the language - You don't have to be fluent in Italian, but you should know the basics. A pocket dictionary will help a lot!

- Be aware of your belongings at all times - Pick pocketers are very common in Italy, especially in Rome, so never leave anything unattended! If you set down your backpack, loop the strap around your leg.

-Always carry a map of the city you're in - When you're in a foreign country, the last thing you want to do is get lost, so pay attention to where you're going and know how to get back!

- Don't go off alone - Travel with a friend or a group, it's more fun and much safer!

- Most of all - Have fun!

Assisi

With an air of true medieval history, Assisi is a wonderful Italian town full of culture and history. Their most famous landmark is the Basilica of San Francesco d'Assisi, with beautiful fresco paintings on all of the walls and ceilings and an amazing spiritual feeling. The city is also marked with two spectacular castles, adding to the renaissance atmosphere. Walking down the streets of Assisi almost gives you an expectation to see a knight on horseback cross your path. The gift shops don't ignore this aspect of the town either. Almost anywhere in Assisi, you can be sure to find a medieval sword to take home as a nice Souvenir. Even today, thousands of years later, you can still see the city walls and forum of the medieval civilization.

If you would like to truly experience the religion of the town and the significance of the Church of St. Francesco, you can receive a tour from a legitimate friar of the church. Even if you are not a religious person, the history of the place is overwhelming and carries amazingly heavy feelings that make for a truly unforgettable experience.
